Grapevine Cottage Islamlar/Kalkan
Enjoy a stay in a genuine Turkish village in an area of outstanding natural beauty at our Islamlar Kalkan accommodation.
The old stone cottage is just a short walk down a quiet lane from the centre of the village and 8 km from Kalkan. It is set in a shady vineyard with views of the sea. The guest room is separate from the main house and has a cooling stream running through the garden.
It has been restored and decorated in traditional Turkish style with local earthenware pottery and hand loomed Anatolian kilims and weavings a feature. It offers you the opportunity of enjoying Turkish village life first hand. At the same time you are only a stone’s throw from Kalkan and Kas and other fascinating small coastal towns.
There are many interesting anthropological sites to visit and beautiful deserted beaches. Islamlar, or Bodamya as it was once known, is known for its lush green gardens and was previously of mixed Turkish and Greek race. It is famous for its water powered stone mills that are still in use. The village makes its own tahini from locally grown sesame seeds. Every week the local women get together and make yufta, a natural flat bread made on an open fire from the stone milled flour. The views of the sea are breathtaking. It is a fascinating area of great natural beauty. The village also has trout farms using the natural water that springs fresh from the mountain. There are several very good local restaurants serving trout, village bread and home made cheese.
You are also perfectly situated at this Kalkan accommodation for making day trips to fascinating places, such as Xanthos and Saklikent. Also there are unspoiled beaches to enjoy. In addition to the charming local restaurants, a wide variety of eating places offering international and local cuisine are available in Kalkan and Kas.
